Bamboo Shoot In Gold Ink. China, Qing Period, 18th-19th Century.
Golden ink bamboo shoot. China, Qing dynasty, 18th-19th century. The ink block was molded in the shape of a bamboo shoot, which is quite original and aesthetically pleasing. It is almost entirely gilded, except for the base, which is left black with small red details. The two Chinese characters molded in relief translate to "Descendants (grandsons?) of the Dragon." It is kept in a cardboard box, covered with blue cotton fabric and closed with bone clips. This type of box was used in China at the beginning of the 20th century to protect antique objects intended for export. This box confirms the age of the ink block, molded in the 19th century or earlier. Good condition, no restoration, a tiny piece of the tip is broken, as shown in the enlarged photo. The box is a little worn. Length: 22 cm
