This lot consists of two handles from the famous utility knives traditionally carried by samurai.
Each kozuka features a smooth side, designed to slide easily into the katanas cabbard, and a decorated side displaying refined metalwork.The kozuka are made of patinated copper alloy (shibuichi) and enhanced with silver and gold overlays and inlays.The lot includes two attractive examples:
•A crane resting among apple blossoms.
•A fishing-return scene featuring a finely rendered golden crustacean.
This piece is signed by the artisan 光好 (Mitsuyoshi). The value of lot is primarily based on this signed kozuka; the second kozuka is included as a bonus.
