An interesting terrestrial globe from the Napoleon III period, reflecting the 19th-century taste for scientific and educational instruments, both objects of study and highly prized decorative elements in bourgeois interiors. This globe bears the inscription: "Terrestrial Globe – Scale: 1:50,000,000 (1 centimeter represents 500 kilometers)," and indicates that it was drawn by J. Forest, geographer, and published by Girard and Barrère, 17–19 rue de Buci in Paris. This publishing house was particularly active in the production of globes and maps during the second half of the 19th century. The cartography presents numerous geographical and scientific details, notably the representation of ocean currents, climatic zones, and zodiac constellations, visible on the sphere with markings such as Capricorn. The continents and oceans are finely engraved and colored, offering a clear and educational representation of the world as it was depicted at the time. The globe is mounted on a turned, blackened wood base, simple and elegant, typical of 19th-century models.
