Constantin Guys, born in 1902 in the Netherlands, died in Paris in 1892. Painter, watercolorist, draftsman, illustrator. After an adventurous youth, he returned to Paris in 1822. From 1830 onward, he acquired great renown in the arts for his watercolors, drawings, and lithographs. Through his watercolors, he became a chronicler of the life of his time. Baudelaire wrote about him, "The Painter of Modern Life," in which he defined the concept of modernity. His works are held in the Louvre Museum, the Carnavalet Museum, and the Petit Palais in Paris, as well as in Washington, Los Angeles, and Baltimore. His works are displayed in antique gilt frames.
