Elegant watercolor and gouache on paper from the "The Cruise" series by Louis van Parys. His date and place of birth are unknown. He died in 1896. A drawing teacher and founder of the Bar-le-Duc School of Painting for Young Girls, he produced portraits of the Grand Masters of Artillery. Commissioned by the French government in 1848, they are exhibited at the Musée des Invalides in Paris.
