"the Spinner" Clock In Gilt Bronze, Directoire Period
Artist: Minet
A mercury-gilt bronze clock with a matte and burnished finish.
It depicts the Spinner, the mythological representation of Clotho, known as "the Spinner," daughter of Zeus, goddess of destiny, weaver of the thread of life.
The Spinner, holding a distaff, sits on a stone fountain beside a dog. On either side of the scene are ewers resting on half-columns, decorated with garlands of flowers, affixed to a pedestal. The base is adorned with a flower basket, a wreath, a distaff, and ribbons. The clock rests on four large feet.
The pedestal houses the movement within an octagonal frame with palmettes. The white enamel dial is signed Minet in Paris. The hands are blued steel, known as "Breguet hands."
The movement has an 8-day power reserve and strikes the hours and half-hours. The suspension is by wire. The movement is in perfect working order.
Height: 42 cm Width: 28 cm Depth: 12 cm
Directoire period.
Complete clock with pendulum and key. Very fine quality of chasing; the clock's composition is balanced and very harmonious.
Condition report: The clock is in very good condition. The mercury gilding is original. There is a small chip in the enamel of the dial near the striking mechanism's winding hole.
Packaging and shipping: We personally ensure secure packaging with optimal protection. Shipping will be handled by UPS with full insurance. A flat fee of 80 euros is charged for all deliveries within the European Union. For all other destinations, please ask us a quote.
