"Hibachi Or Planter In Wood And Copper. Japan, Taisho Period, Circa 1930. "
This small piece of furniture is made of wood with a particularly interesting grain. A wide, square opening on the top provides access to a cubic space lined with thin copper plates. It could be a hibachi (a type of wooden planter) or a jardinière (a small planter box). Two drawers on the front and a lid with a handle on top conceal small storage compartments. The wood grain is very elegant. It is rare to find this type of small piece of furniture made from such a beautiful material. Japan, Taisho-early Showa period, circa 1920-30. 345 x 210 x 200 mm.
