A decorative Royal Worcester porcelain pair of Renaissance musicians, designed on a large sculptural scale by James Hadley. The mandolin player and the Blind Whistler create a lively yet refined composition intended for statement interior display.
Finished in exclusive shot enamel with restrained gilding, the figures belong to Worcester’s highest level of craftsmanship. The technique involved complex enamel application with a high rate of rejection, making production costly and strictly limited. It was therefore reserved for exhibition and ceremonial pieces rather than standard output.
Crowned Worcester marks with date dots confirm manufacture in 1912 and 1914. Complete original pairs in this finish are now seldom seen.
