"Hapi Baboon Statuette Mould From The Ptolemaic Period On A Stand"
Magnificent and rare terracotta statuette mold from the Ptolemaic period (305-30 BC), depicting the reverse of Hapi, the baboon deity and one of the four sons of Horus, protector of the lungs in the afterlife. Hapi was often represented on the lids of canopic jars, but was also frequently used as a funerary statuette. This magnificent and rare example testifies to the stylistic and cultural influence of this ancient period, an era that itself gave rise to other antiquities. The Ptolemaic period, founded by the Greek general Ptolemy I Soter, a servant of Alexander the Great, lasted from 305 to 30 BC, until the fall of Cleopatra VII. It is marked by the blending of Hellenistic and Egyptian cultures. It fell to the growing Roman power in 30 BC. Presented on its custom-made base.
