"Trumpet Helmet Of The King's Bodyguards, First Model 1814, Restoration. "
Trumpet helmet of the King's Bodyguard, first model 1814, Restoration period. 33650(16036) Black patent leather helmet body, visor, and neck guard. Depth of the helmet body approximately 16 cm. Visor waxed green on the inside and edged with a silvered copper band folded over the outer rim (8 mm wide) and secured with four small silver nails. Width of the visor 5.5 cm. Width of the neck guard approximately 3.5 cm. All helmet fittings are silvered copper. The front plate is embossed with a radiant sun on which is the face of the sun framed by two interlaced Ls surmounted by the royal crown, with a cloud motif at the bottom on which a ribbon bears the inscription "NEC PLURIBUS IMPAR" (Superior to all: motto of Louis XIV). The plate is 16.5 cm high and approximately 32 cm wide. It is attached by a clip on each side at the level of the chin straps and by a hook at its top to secure the straps. The rear band forms a point in its center, decorated with two branches of foliage with a central fleuron and bordered at the top and bottom by projecting moldings. On each side of the helmet, a two-pronged palm frond curling forward is attached (decree of January 16, 1815). The crest consists of a mask and two wings. The three sections are embossed with a series of feathers decreasing in size towards the rear, the upper part of which is cut into scallops. The lower section is decorated with a series of acanthus leaves; the lower end is folded outwards, scalloped, and attached to the helmet by four conical-headed brass screws with wing-like prongs. The plume holder is made of silvered brass with a tubular cross-section that tapers slightly towards the bottom. The chin straps, each consisting of a chin piece and a rosette, are made of leather covered in black velvet and adorned with a series of scales alternately cut into four or three scallops with chiseled edges. The chin straps are finished with a black cord (later replaced). The chin straps are approximately 16 cm long, 5.4 cm at their widest point, and approximately 1.6 cm at their narrowest. Embossed rosettes of a radiant sun, 6.5 cm high, 7.8 cm wide, with the sun's face finely embossed in the center, its back attached to a clasp that passes through the rosette, chin strap, and helmet bowl. Face height: 2 cm, face width: 2.6 cm. Scarlet horsehair mane mounted on a leather base and cut into a brush shape. Height: approximately 6 cm. The front point protrudes approximately 6 cm, height at the back: approximately 3.5 cm. Interior lining consisting of a waxed leather band topped with black silk. France. Restoration period. Very good condition, interior lining worn, original brush replaced.
