A hooded jacket of an officer of the Chasseurs d'Afrique, Second Empire. 31148. This hooded jacket, made entirely of dark sky-blue cloth, is richly decorated with black wool braid and piping that borders the entire garment and adorns all sides with Hungarian knots and geometric designs. It fastens at the front with laces (three on each side) of braided black wool cord. Each lace ends in a loop, then a black pompom, and three black tassels, each secured by a small scarlet bead. The lining of the jacket and hood is made of fine crimson cloth, entirely edged with a silk braid in gold, crimson, green, and beige woven with geometric designs. This braid is framed by piping in gold and crimson threads. Each interior seam is covered with a braided cord in a blend of gold and crimson. At the junction of the hood and jacket, the lining is reinforced with a wide black velvet ribbon finished on either side with a black velvet tab embroidered with oriental motifs in silver thread. Sleeves lined with crimson silk. On each side at the hips, a 15 cm opening is made for the hands. France. Second Empire. Very good condition, a few moth holes.
