Bronze Fawn - Italy - Late 19th/early 20th Century

Bronze fawn, after the model found in 1756 at the Villa of the Papyri in Herculaneum and now in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples.
The sculpture has a beautiful brown patina and is in perfect condition. It rests on a high-quality marble base.

Fawn sculpture dimensions: height 22 cm and length 17 cm.
Base dimensions: height 11 cm, length 14 cm, and width 7.5 cm.
Total weight: 5 kg.

This smaller version of the original was probably produced by the Chiurazzi foundry between the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The Chiurazzi foundry, located in Naples, specialized in reproducing antique bronzes, particularly those discovered in Herculaneum and Pompeii.
It was the only foundry authorized by the Vatican to reproduce antique bronzes, and by 1891, the Chiurazzi foundry had opened showrooms in Naples.
Her clients included European courts, England, Austria, Greece, as well as international museums.
Among her most famous models is the fawn of Herculaneum.
