Signed "Barye" (after) on the base, with a foundry or inspection mark "C&L déposée" on the reverse, preceded by the inscription "Bronze garantie au titre" (Bronze guaranteed to the required standard).
The chasing of the "Standing Borzoi with Head Turned" is very fine;
it rests on an extremely decorative base (with numerous relief elements).
Antoine-Louis Barye (1796–1875) was a French sculptor and painter, famous for his animal works with remarkable realism and expressiveness. He is considered one of the greatest masters of 19th-century animal sculpture.
