Bronze sculpture, according to Barye, in very good condition (minor scratches from use), certainly end 19th or early 20th century, with a brown patina.
Signed "Barye" on the base, with on the reverse thefoundry mark Coutenot & Lelièvre "C&L déposée / Bronze garantie au titre" (Bronze guaranteed to the required standard).
The chasing of the "Standing Borzoi with Head Turned" is very fine;
it rests on an extremely decorative base (with numerous relief elements).
Antoine-Louis Barye (1796–1875) was a French sculptor and painter, famous for his animal works with remarkable realism and expressiveness. He is considered one of the greatest masters of 19th-century animal sculpture.
