Théodore Gechter, whose full name was Jean-François-Théodore Gechter (1796-1844), was a French sculptor, a student of François Joseph Bosio and Antoine-Jean Gros. He distinguished himself with his bronzes, particularly classical, mythological, and animal subjects, exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1827 to 1844. Close to Antoine-Louis Barye, he excelled in the realistic and dynamic representation of animals and battle scenes, while imbuing his creations with an emotional dimension.
From 1830 onward, he turned to smaller sculptures and animal themes.
