Gilt-bronze Flower Pot From The Charles X Period
Large French gilt-bronze flower pot from the Charles X period. It features an oval-shaped central bowl with a fully decorated rim, and a lower bowl entirely pierced and decorated with arches and palmettes, containing a gilded copper flower basket. On either side, kneeling, are two large winged cherubs holding the bowl and the large acanthus leaf-shaped handles. The lower bowl has an elongated octagonal base with a fully decorated outer rim. The entire piece is supported by four worked feet.
Given the quality of its workmanship, it is a valuable and hard-to-find object, especially in gilded bronze. Very few are found, and objects like these are often attributed to important French bronze sculptors of the period, such as Jean-Baptiste-Claude.
