Gilded Wooden Frame, Sicily, Late 18th Century
A gilded wooden frame of Sicilian origin, dating from the late 18th century. Crafted from wood and entirely decorated with pure gold leaf. It features a half-round profile with an inner edge entirely decorated in low relief with small spheres alternating with elongated elements. The outer border is carved with a low-relief ovule motif enclosed within a shell, which in classical and neoclassical design is traditionally alternated with small vertical points called darts, arrows, or lancets. Just below, the design is completed by a twisted cord motif. The frame is entirely original, as is its gilding; as seen in the photos, it has never been restored and has a few small chips, which, given its age, are to be expected, but do not require major restoration work—which we can perform upon request in our restoration workshop.
