"Kifwebe Mask From Carrefour Pierre Vérité Songye Gallery With Certificate"
Kifwebe mask from the Basonge people of Zaire, one of the most famous examples of tribal art with its distinctive, highly abstract, cubist design. This is the male model with the crest. It was purchased in 1980 from the Pierre Vérité gallery, the founding father of the renowned Parisian gallery well-known to collectors. The certificate of authenticity will be included. Note a wax seal inside, but it is illegible to me (from Mr. Vérité or indicating its origin in Congo?). Height 40 cm, significant patina from use, termite damage visible on the back and right side, early 20th century. Secure shipping with insurance and invoice.
