"Pair Of Small Regency-style Louis XV Bergère Armchairs With Flat Backs, Early 20th Century"
A very pretty pair of Louis XV style bergère chairs in natural waxed beechwood, dating from the very late 19th/early 20th century (circa 1900). Each chair rests on four cabriole legs, each ending in a scroll. The two front legs are richly carved with a shell motif at the top and an acanthus leaf at the bottom, just above the scroll. The two side rails, as well as the front rail of the seat rail, are deeply shaped and feature elaborate carving of foliage and shells. The armrests are covered with sleeves, and both sides of the chairs are upholstered in solid fabric, revealing the entire armrest support. The backs are flat, with a straight top and the entire backrest covered in fabric. The upholstery is in very good condition; it is firm and very comfortable. However, we note that the upholstery shows signs of wear, with some visible wear along the front edge of the... Seats (wear is indicated by red arrows, see last photos). The whole piece is finished with studs. Beautiful early 20th-century craftsmanship. Dimensions: back height 88 cm, seat height 40 cm, width 68 cm, total depth 65 cm, seat depth 51 cm.
