Exceptional Pair Of Large Blown Glass Globe Domes On Bases, Charles X Period

An exceptional pair of large blown glass globes/domes on circular rosewood bases, dating from the Charles X period (19th century). The original rosewood bases are adorned with lemonwood marquetry inlay. The entire set is entirely original, including the glass, the bases, and the felt supports holding the glass bases, all in superb condition. Note that a small section of the marquetry on one base has very slight separation (see photo). These globes/domes, originally used to hold bridal clothing or headdresses, can also display taxidermied specimens, such as rare island birds or other small animals. It was also not uncommon for them to be used by watchmakers to house small skeleton clocks or other small pendulums. These are intended for true enthusiasts who understand that this type of large globe, in pairs, remains extremely rare on the market. The exceptionally fine blown glass globes have absolutely no cracks or other chips on the bases. Dimensions: total height with base 45 cm (base alone 6 cm), diameter 19 cm, weight 700 g.
