A powerful sword of the 1st Company of Musketeers of the King's Military Household, Model 1762 (1762-1775), Old Regime. 32217. Cast and gilded brass hilt with an openwork shell guard, crossguard with a chape cover, thumb guard with shell and antennae, and a crossguard with a hook. Cast grip imitating filigree. Pommel decorated on each side with the Musketeers' cross with three corner flames. Height of the hilt: 15.4 cm. Flat blade engraved on each side "1st Company of Musketeers of the King," inscription framed on each side of the engraved Musketeers' cross. Blade length: 91.5 cm. Leather scabbard with two engraved brass mounts with scalloped edges, and a chape with a button for belt attachment engraved with the Company's cross. France. Ancien Régime, reign of Louis XV. Good condition, blade with some oxidation from use, gilding partially rubbed, scabbard leather later.
