"FIRANGHI" SABER WITH EUROPEAN BLADE, South India, 17th century. 30824. The hilt is entirely of cast iron with a wide branch surmounted by a semi-spherical disc pommel from which emerges a tall shaft and a wide kirtimukha, the faces of ferocious monsters. The sword's guard is supported by a slightly curved bivalve shell, beneath which are two raised yalis on either side. The straight blade is 99 cm long, single-edged, and has fullers. South India, 17th century. Very good condition, slight oxidation and period patina. No scabbard. Provenance: Probus Stockholm, April 24, 2017, lot 38
