He drew at the animal enclosure in the Jardin des Plantes, where he befriended the animal sculptor François Pompon. In 1922, he joined the advanced workshop directed by Eugène Morand at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. His classmates at the time were Joseph Inguimberty, Raymond Leugueult, and Maurice Brianchon. He also met François Desnoyers and Roland Oudot. Alongside his formal training, the young painter sought further guidance, including from Maurice Denis, Georges Desvallières, and Pierre Bonnard. In the 1920s, he received medals and the Ephrussi Scholarship twice, and held his first solo exhibition at the Galerie Druet in Paris. Between 1927 and 1932, he frequented the circles of the circus, music hall, opera, cabarets, open-air cafes, and the banks of the Marne River, which he knew so well from having lived, worked, and loved them. He was entrusted with several commissions, including the decoration of the patio wall of the Lighting Pavilion for the 1937 Universal Exposition, entitled "Man Created Artificial Light." In the 1950s, he was approached by the Lancôme company, with whom he collaborated on the show "Les Petits Lits Blancs" (The Little White Beds) and the creation of the ballet "Trésor et Magie" (Treasure and Magic).
