"Oriental Silver Niello Powder Flask"
Eastern Anatolia / Ottoman Caucasus – or Iran (Persia) Late 18th – first half of the 19th century (circa 1780–1840). Powder flask of flattened pear shape, made of silver (or a highly silver-bearing alloy), decorated by engraving with niello backgrounds. Screw-on stopper carved in the form of a stylized feline head, with an antique, hand-cut thread. Two lateral suspension rings. Not to be confused with later Indian powder flasks in silver-damascened iron, which belong to a different tradition and chronology.
