18th-century Bronze, Athena Or Minerva, Helmeted And Nude
Athena Helmeted and Nude, Bronze from the 18th Century.
The goddess Athena, or Minerva, a beautiful bronze after the ancient nude, emerging from the thigh of Jupiter.
An important bronze representing the goddess Minerva.
She is nude, wears a plumed helmet, and holds a spear in her right hand. She rests on a gadrooned base.
The screws under the base show the assembly.
A very beautiful, medal-colored patina and fine chasing adorn this charming bronze.
An 18th-century bronze inspired by the Renaissance, based on the criteria of Greco-Roman antiquity, but upon closer inspection of the patina, the quality of the casting, and the chasing, it could be older.
Athena appears nude, notably during the Judgment of Paris when she is confronted by Aphrodite and Juno, a dear and frequently used theme in the graphic arts, but also found throughout the 17th and 18th centuries in sculptures and antique bronzes.
Dimensions:
43 cm high and 30 cm without the spear.
