Bontems Jardinière Singing Bird
Artist: Bontems (paris)
A very rare Bontems "jardinière" singing bird. Made in Paris in the fourth quarter of the 19th century. The Bontems company, founded in Paris in 1849 by Charles Bontems, is considered one of the greatest French manufacturers of mechanical birds and luxury automata. Renowned for the exceptional quality of its mechanisms, the realism of its song, and the refinement of its porcelain decorations, Bontems supplied a prestigious clientele in France and internationally. Today, its creations are featured in major collections and museums. When the lever concealed at the back is activated, the lively bird sings its cheerful melody while turning its head and waving its tail. The bird appears to be delicately perched among the flowers. The mechanism is hidden within the porcelain base. Models of this type were produced in very small quantities and are always unique. The pot is very colorful and extremely rare. Few examples have survived to this day. This example is preserved in exceptional condition, which is quite remarkable for such an old object, both aesthetically and mechanically. https://youtu.be/8ZG6SMHV7j0
