Swiss Cylinder Music Box – Nicole Frères, 1874. A very fine Swiss cylinder music box by Nicole Frères, made in 1874. It features a large, thick cylinder, 8 cm in diameter and 31 cm long, playing 12 melodies, according to the original melody card, which is still present. The interior of the case is red, enhancing its luxurious appearance. The box is of fine quality, with symmetrical marquetry on the lid, inlaid stringing on the front, and small black feet. The mechanism is functional but requires servicing and adjustments, including possibly re-tuning the comb. This condition is fully reflected in the asking price, which is particularly attractive. The case is in very good condition, making this an ideal piece for careful restoration. A beautiful and complete example from the golden age of Swiss mechanical music.
