Swiss Music Box – Ducommun Girod, mid-19th century. A beautiful Swiss music box by Ducommun Girod, dating from the mid-19th century. The mechanism is wound with a key, with the control located on the rear left side of the end panel. It is equipped with a large, thick cylinder, 8 cm in diameter and 28.5 cm long, playing four tunes, according to the original silver-plated melody card. Beneath the mechanism is a hollow soundbox, specially designed to enhance resonance and sound quality. This meticulous construction detail is typical of finely crafted Swiss music boxes of this period.
