Bontems Songbird Planter (porcelain)
Artist: Bontems (paris)
Extremely rare bird automaton in the form of a planter, in perfect condition! A masterpiece signed Bontems, made in Paris around 1870. This type of automaton is extremely rare: already produced in small numbers at the time, it is now virtually impossible to find. A true piece of history, unique of its kind. This magnificent automaton has been carefully restored and works perfectly. The bird sings a joyful melody with subtle pauses that bring the music to life. Meanwhile, it turns its head, flicks its tail, and opens its beak – a fascinating spectacle that perfectly illustrates the magic of 19th-century craftsmanship. No two of these automata are alike. Every detail is unique: decorative plants, the shape and decoration of the planter, not to mention the bird itself. This specimen is distinguished by its exceptional quality and the exquisite detail of its work. A similar automaton appears in C. Bailly's work (p. 300), but the exquisite detail of the plumage on the model presented here is immediately noticeable. A rare opportunity to own a unique heritage piece – a true delight for both the eyes and ears. Here is a video: https://youtu.be/0k21OnY9kx4
