Porcelain Plate From The East India Company, "grisaille" Style, Dating From The 18th Century.
A very fine porcelain plate from the East India Company, dating from the Qianlong period of the 18th century. This model is referenced in F. and N. Hervouët's book "La Porcelaine des Compagnies des Indes à décor occidental" under number 9.13. It bears the designation AR for "Assez Rare" (Fairly Rare). This plate, 23 cm in diameter, features a grisaille decoration inspired by La Fontaine's fables: "Les Oies de frère Philippe" (circa 1745). The decoration was copied from an engraving by Larmessin, published in 1737, after Lancret. Five figures are depicted in the center. Their skin is pink, and their eyes are almond-shaped. A wolf's teeth motif separates the center of the plate from the rim, which is itself decorated with a gold garland.
