"Effect of Sea" by Eugene BERTHELON (Paris 1829/1914). Oil on board signed lower right. Eugene Berthelon: pupil of LAVIEILLE and BERN BELLECOUR. He exhibited at the Salon between 1864 and 1914, receiving an honorable mention in 1879 and a silver medal in 1889. His landscapes of the valley Bièvre, Brittany, in the countryside or forests are painted in soft hues of gray and pink, swept under skies, discreetly lit by the sun or the moon.
