Armand Guillaumin (1841-1927) Madeleine And Marguerite, Daughters Of The Artist

This pastel depicting Madeleine and Marguerite, the artist's daughters, is signed in the center and comes with a certificate from the GUILLAUMIN Committee.
Guillaumin is considered the last representative of the first generation of Impressionists, an exact contemporary of Monet, who died a year after him. He was a friend of Van Gogh and Renoir. He is best known for being the leader of the Crozant school in the Creuse region, renowned for its landscapes. Intimate scenes like the one in our tender pastel are more exceptional.
Madeleine Guillaumin appears in several works, including portraits with her mother. The first painting shown in the appendix is: Madeleine Guillaumin reading in a decorated interior, wearing a green dress in front of an open book. This pastel was sold at Christie's in November 2023. The second painting depicts Marguerite Guillaumin in a floral kimono. Both paintings date from the very early years of the 20th century. The Portrait of Madeleine Guillaumin at the age of 6 can also be admired at the Musée d'Orsay.
