Ernest Rouart 1874-1942 : Woman Walking And Rider
Artist: Ernest Rouart 1874-1942
Woman walking and Rider. Ernest Rouart was the son of Henri Rouart, a friend and patron of Degas. Degas exceptionally agreed to take his friend's son on as a student. This work, painted in the 1900s, is one of the rare examples where Degas's influence is so directly felt. Ernest Rouart married Julie Manet, daughter of Berthe Morisot, a model for many famous Impressionist paintings, and herself a painter. The bulk of Ernest Rouart's work dates from the 1920s and 30s and is in a more Art Deco style. This painting is therefore a rare testament to a key family group in the history of Impressionism and its transmission into the 20th century.
