Large Pair Of Potpourri Jars Decorated With Gallant Scenes
Artist: Manufacture Kpm
Large Pair of Covered Potpourri Vases.
A very important pair of covered potpourri vases. Probably manufactured by KPM, Berlin Fuerstenberg.
19th-century German porcelain, mounted in Louis XVI style gilt bronze.
These vases are decorated in blue and turquoise, with a striated relief forming wavy lines.
Within white cartouches, one side depicts gallant scenes of men conversing with women in the spirit of the 18th century.
The other side features beautiful, brightly colored bouquets of flowers.
The vases are decorated all around with insects and scattered flowers.
Each vase rests on a Louis XVI style gilt bronze base.
Both are adorned at the neck with a bronze reservoir inside, and a beautifully chased astragal, which receives the potpourri lids.
These lids are openwork and decorated with flowers and insects, and at the top with a pretty finial in the shape of... Two large, highly decorative, and beautifully crafted covered vases.
One of the handles on one of the lids has been restored, and the other has a small chip. Otherwise, they are in excellent overall condition. This is a very fine pair of covered vases in the 18th-century style, with exquisite painted decoration and superb colors.
They are spectacular and harmoniously beautiful.
Dimensions:
46 cm high, 25 cm wide, and 16 cm x 16 cm at the bronze base.
