Large, Winged Angel Head, Carved From Wood – Cherub With A Blonde Patina, Circa 1900
A beautiful cherub’s head carved in high relief from fruitwood, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century.
The childlike face, with full cheeks and slightly parted lips, is framed by a profusion of hair in large curls. Two raised wings, with finely detailed feathers, surround the head and meet beneath the chin to form an elegant decorative motif.
The depth of the carving gives the face a particularly expressive presence. The smooth modeling of the flesh contrasts with the grooves in the hair and the pattern of the plumage, creating a beautiful interplay of light and shadow.
A golden patina with shades of honey and amber highlights the wood’s grain and lends the piece a lovely warmth.
This wall-mounted sculpture has a flat back fitted with a hanging mechanism for wall display.
In very good overall condition, with slight signs of age and a small visible crack above one eyebrow.
