Pair Of 19th Century Holy Water Fonts Mounted In Basins.
Description:
24k gold leaf gilt shell, chased gilt bronze, faux marble wood.
These mounted objects consist of a holy water font valve fixed to an openwork bronze base decorated with flowers and faun masks.
The interior of the font is gilded.
Condition:
I purchased these objects in poor condition; the blue marble plaque between the base and the font was broken, and the central stem was oxidized. The gold on the valve was significantly worn. This pair has been completely restored. A trompe-l'oeil lapis lazuli wooden plaque replaces the marble plaque, a new central stem is fitted, and the gilding has been redone with gold leaf.
