Beautiful oil on canvas depicting an elderly woman reading, seated in her armchair. This painting is unsigned and was created after a work by Herman Verbrugge, a Belgian painter born in 1879 and died in 1947. It is sold in an antique gold patinated frame. (Note several small areas of missing or repainted stucco, without affecting the visual appearance.) Herman Verbrugge was a Belgian artist, born in Roeselare in 1879 and died in Beveren-Waas in 1947. He was a painter, draftsman, and enameller. He studied at the Academies of Antwerp and Brussels. He exhibited, among other places, at the Antwerp Triennial Salons between 1901 and 1923, in Ghent in 1922, and in Brussels in 1907 and 1914. He exhibited at the Brussels World's Fair in 1910. He was decorated in Ghent in 1922. He was also an art professor at the Ghent Academy; some of his works can be found in the Antwerp Museum. Dimensions: frame: 68 cm x 83 cm; canvas: 52 cm x 67 cm
