Louis XVI Period Curule Stool. Aubusson Tapestry.

Large curule stool from the late 18th century in gilded beech wood and covered with a beautiful period needlepoint tapestry, probably from Aubusson, depicting a forest scene with a wolf caught in a trap.

The Louis XVI curule stool's style draws inspiration from Roman antique furniture, which was very fashionable from the 1760s onward. It was one of the court's seats, where etiquette dictated a type corresponding to the social rank of the person sitting on it.
The front legs are reinforced by lateral stretchers. This stool closely resembles the Louis XIV style version, but with more refined, curved X-shaped uprights and sculpted decoration drawn from the Neoclassical repertoire.
The sculpted motifs include fluting, beaded friezes, egg-and-dart patterns, and interlacing scrolls, with a central medallion rosette.
Most of the rich Louis XVI curule stools are made of beechwood gilded with gold leaf, upholstered in needlepoint, velvet, or silk.

The seat and upholstery are in excellent condition, with the original gilding uncleaned.
