Panoramic Engraving, Mid-19th Century, Of The Port Of Le Havre
Artist: Le Petit ( Graveur)
The port of Le Havre, due to its importance, underwent successive developments to accommodate the growing needs of the ships that docked there. While its golden age was the 1930s with the transatlantic liners, and its darkest hours with the bombings of the city, the 19th century was a prosperous period when the traffic of sailing and steamships flourished towards America. This panoramic view gives us a good idea of what this already important port must have been like, and of its tourist traffic. It is a charming subject for a stroll for the elegant residents of Le Havre. It is engraved by Le Petit, an artist known at the time for his landscape reproductions. Very well framed, quite recently, respecting the style of the period, it is a lovely document of a city in perpetual evolution.
