A very beautiful 17th-century alabaster Virgin, carved from the Trapani workshop.
A rare appliqué sculpture, not to be found on the antiques market.
Our Virgin with a radiant face is a Puríssima Conception; she appears to be levitating.
The alabaster carving is remarkable, with its intricate drapery forming spectacular lace-like patterns.
It must have been part of a larger sculptural ensemble at one time.
Observe the superb work of the drapery.
The head was reattached long ago, as well as a piece on the right side, easily visible in the photos. It is presented on a base with openwork floral motifs.
nevertheless, our Virgin in ecstasy remains of great beauty.
Very beautiful antique patina.
