The reliquary is securely sealed and contains a relic ex linteis (from the linen cloth) of Saint Alphonsus Liguori. It bears a seal and its authenticated certificate from 1868, issued by Nicolas Mauron, Superior General of the Redemptorists.
Alphonsus Liguori (1696-1787) was an Italian priest and bishop, founder of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, and recognized as a saint and Doctor of the Church by the Catholic Church.
The relic and the signatory of the certificate represent continuity for the Congregation.
It measures 3.7 cm in diameter.
