Gilt Silver Chalice And Paten, France, 19th Century

Chalice and paten in gilt silver, executed in matte and polished finishes. The chalice rests on a six-lobed base with several cyma recta moldings. The matte-ground base is decorated with a frieze of scrolls around the rim, cascading vine leaves and aquatic plants, as well as three round medallions encircled with pearls depicting scenes from the life of Christ. The tubular stem, with a torus-shaped knot, supports a straight-rimmed, hemispherical cup bearing a Latin inscription. France, circa 1900. 950/1000 silver, Minerva hallmark.
