Gilt Silver Chalice And Paten, France, 19th Century
Chalice and paten in gilt silver, executed in matte and polished finishes. The chalice rests on a six-lobed base with several cyma recta moldings. The matte-ground base is decorated with a frieze of scrolls around the rim, cascading vine leaves and aquatic plants, as well as three round medallions encircled with pearls depicting scenes from the life of Christ. The tubular stem, with a torus-shaped knot, supports a straight-rimmed, hemispherical cup bearing a Latin inscription. France, circa 1900. 950/1000 silver, Minerva hallmark. Silversmith: Demarquet Frères, Paris. Height: 23 cm. Diameter of the base: 15.5 cm. Gross weight: 581 g. Guilloché and chased vermeil paten, bearing the initials IHS surrounded by quatrefoils. 950/1000 silver, Minerva hallmark. Silversmith: Jamain & Chevron. Diameter: 15 cm. Weight: 108 g.
