"Castle Fireplace Grate, Large Wrought Iron Fire Screen, 2.04m, 19th Century"
An exceptional, oversized (2.04m long) wrought iron fireplace screen from a castle, dating from around 1900. This sumptuous piece of wrought ironwork features a scroll and acanthus leaf motif and rests on two feet, the front of which is also intricately worked. The back of the screen is composed of a very fine mesh grille to prevent sparks from escaping. This grille is in very good condition; the wrought iron has acquired a beautiful patina from age and use. Note a very slight separation of a few centimeters from the mesh grille at one of the lower corners and along the upper edge (see detail photo). This is not visible from the front and does not affect the aesthetics or the effectiveness of the screen. A truly beautiful object, both practical and highly decorative, to place in front of a large, elegant open fireplace.
