"Tea Table That Can Also Be Used As A Reading Table, Coffee Table, Or Side Table, With Japanese-inspired Decor, 19th Century"
A superb and rare tea table, this side table transforms into a reading desk thanks to its tilting top. This remarkable piece of furniture comprises two tiers: the upper tier is lacquered and can be raised by pulling a side button, thus transforming the side table into a reading table. This tier is mounted on a rack and pinion mechanism, allowing for various angles of inclination. To close it, simply lower the tier by pulling the button again; releasing the button locks the mechanism. The top is decorated with a Japanese-inspired landscape in relief, featuring a deer and two figures. The lower tier is covered with a fine and elegant marquetry of precious woods. It shows some subtle sun damage. The cabriole legs of our table are finished with beautiful gilt bronze sabots. The piece is in very good condition overall, but naturally shows some minor signs of wear. Superb craftsmanship from the Parisian suburbs, dating from the Napoleon III period.
