Bench Forming A Storage Chest, England, Circa 1900, Bed End, Mahogany And Marquetry
Charming and highly unusual small English bench in marquetry mahogany, dating from the very beginning of the 20th century. It is, in fact, a bench/bed end that doubles as a storage chest thanks to its drop-down front door opening onto two compartments. This lovely little seat can be placed virtually anywhere: entryway, bedroom, office, etc. Easy to move thanks to its two armrests that also serve as handles, it can, for example, be placed at the foot of the bed to store slippers and pajamas, in an entryway for putting on or taking off shoes, in a living room at the end of a sofa as a magazine rack, and so on. A piece of furniture that is both elegant, refined, and very practical. Our bench is made of mahogany, and the door is adorned with a marquetry floral wreath. The seat consists of a comfortable cushion covered in burgundy velvet, which has a small tear on the back. This fabric can be easily replaced as the cushion is removable (see last photo). This piece of furniture is in good condition, with some signs of wear on the woodwork (see photos, some old scratches on the back). The fabric has a small tear. Dimensions of the two interior compartments: width 37cm and height 11cm each
