French School, late 19th century. Oil on original canvas. Portrait of Colonel Dupuis, commander of the 57th Line Infantry Regiment, Commander of the Legion of Honour on August 9, 1854. Born in Boulogne on July 25, 1796. Enlisted as a volunteer in 1812. Fell gloriously at the head of his regiment on September 8, 1855, at the capture of Sevastopol, Crimean War. Portrait of fine quality painted by Leoni Boulanger during the Second Empire after the bronze sculpture made by Alphonse Giroux around 1860. Unframed, minor chips, unvarnished.
