Born in Périgueux at the end of the Great War, Ribeyrol grew up on the family land in Razac-sur-l'Isle, which he left for his career as a railway worker. During his youth, he learned the rudiments of art at the School of Drawing alongside Pierre-Robert Lucas, future Prix de Rome winner in 1937, and Jean Cluseau-Lanauve. These lovers of the Périgord region learned under the tutelage of two well-known artists: Robert Dessales-Quentin and Julien Saraben. Ribeyrol initially worked in Grenoble, where he participated in numerous local exhibitions within the circle of the city's Fine Arts Society. His passion for drawing and painting compelled him to practice almost daily within this group to develop his art with greater rigor. He won prizes in Grenoble and Lyon, the city he moved to in 1968 and where he also joined the Fine Arts Society. Throughout these years abroad, Jean-Daniel Ribeyrol created continuously, primarily landscapes of neighboring Provence, but also, of course, of the foothills of the Alps and the Auvergne region. A few still lifes punctuate the color-blocked landscapes he enjoys exhibiting. In 1974, the painter retired and was able to devote himself full-time to his passion for the landscapes of the Périgord region. Shortly after, he created "l'Atelier" (the Workshop) within the Société des Beaux-Arts du Périgord (Périgord Fine Arts Society), which continues to this day as a meeting place and weekly art studio. From 1986 to 1990, he presided over the Society, which he significantly expanded. In 1988, a major exhibition of his work was organized in Périgueux, and another in 2015 in Razac-sur-l'Isle. More accustomed to landscapes, Ribeyrol nevertheless took up portraiture, both of his friends and family and on commission. These portraits, depicting only the face, employ his usual technique and his treatment of values through broad, luminous, and colorful brushstrokes.
