Louis Cabié, a renowned artist in France and particularly in the Bordeaux region, even during his lifetime, traveled extensively throughout the southwest of France. A student of Harpignies, whose passion for vegetation is reminiscent of the Barbizon school, he continued to capture the simplicity of picturesque French landscapes until his death. Spectacular trees, forest settings, places steeped in history, enchanting valleys, or even a landscape in its purest form, which he imbued with a vibrant contrast.
At the beginning of his career, when the painter was still an amateur, the moors surrounding Bordeaux to the west served as his playground and testing ground. He continued his wanderings in this area, along this path he seemed to appreciate in Pessac. Indeed, several paintings and gouaches depict this path, bordered on one side by pine forests and on the other by heathland. This landscape, which today boasts a few strips of asphalt and industrial buildings, has remained frozen in time, a testament to the rural character of the Gironde heathlands, where the colors of the landscape hint at the life of these places.
