Senegalese Riflemen in front of Atur during the Second World War.
Ink on paper.
H. 15.5 cm; W. 22.5 cm (sight).
Signed, located, and dated lower right "Atur - 1960".
This work is a mystery. Given by the artist to the parents of the last owner in 1960, this ink drawing is simply a caricature, or at the very least, a humorous drawing. A specialist in the history of the Second World War in the Périgord region might be able to shed some light on the passage of the 15th Senegalese Rifle Regiment through the small town of Atur, north of Périgueux. Is it real? Simply a touch of humor? History doesn't tell us. The artist seems to be unknown, despite a perfect mastery of his art...
