The port of Bergerac

Native to Bergerac, André Tamarelle was a driver of the Bridges and Roads Department, but also passionate about the history of his town. He created the Bergerac Museum at the end of the 19th century, located in the Town Hall. Alongside these two activities, he devoted himself to painting, not without talent, mainly representing landscapes of the surrounding area.

Our painting, produced around 1890/1900, represents the most famous place in the sub-prefecture: the port. We see the commercial activity with the barges still very present on the river, a few fishermen dipping their lines in the Dordogne and the stone bridge.
