Amber Alabaster Cup, 19th Century

With its mottled pattern, this wide amber-pink alabaster bowl is encircled by a gilt copper gallery punctuated by two faun-headed mascarons. The reference to Renaissance vocabulary could not be clearer, and, if further proof were needed, the base, combining alabaster and a bundle of gilt bronze, rests on a pedestal of the same metal, adorned with water leaves.
